Peace And Comfort And So Forth

I have been pretty hopeless at posting recently. Nevertheless I and The Old Man do send out our warm wishes for this midwinter. And, of course, wishes for Peace.

The time has come for me to stop trying to keep up with hoped for high standards of cleanliness, decor, good food and ultimate Christmassy stuff and wish you all ... good will.

Christmas Time

Are you ready? We are... just about. Just a bit more cooking and cleaning to go.

Today, staggering down the main street in Penzance, bags stuffed with sprouts, peppers, tomatoes and potatoes, I did break for The Edge of The World  bookshop, a place of comfort. I need some fantasy, I think. No more crime reading just at the moment ... the world is rather dark, ain't it? So I may as well tackle witches and spirits this Christmas time. And the good bookshop do not let me down. I browse the shelves and come out with a collection of  Neil Gaiman tales -"Trigger Warning".

The Old Man and me do wish you a restful, enjoyable and well-fed time ... with a little bit of peace and joy as well. Why not?

I do hope that your Santa have not too practical a turn of mind in her gifts. I believe there is always room for frivolity in this life, of course I do. We do wish you good strength and fortune for 2016.

And Me and The Old Man can put our feet up.... before our legs drop off.... again. That is.... there still be some cooking and cleanin to do and some lights to put up and all. But The Old Man and me do really wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

The Christmas Zeitgeist...

...is one of angst, I think.
It's just that I have "carefully analysed" the Christmas cards sent to moi and The Old Man (that is... I have arranged them all round the room) and can see that just about every card has a traditional theme (and mucho glitter and sparkle). There is a whole mantelpiece full of Christmas Trees whilst most of the other cards display Robins, Snowmen, Snow Scenes, Nativities and the odd Christmas Pudding.

This year... the witty image-plays, whacky imagery and reproductions of paintings are gone .... No. It's a longing for a Cosy Christmas straight down the line. Aaah my dahlings... How unsafe we do feel in these times.

The Weather Here...

The midwinter darkness of Northern climes occurs because the sun barely gets above the horizon at this time of the year. That's what all these midwinter celebrations are about, ain't they?

But here... in Cornwall... in the far far west of England....

all is grey for another reason. I don't know when I last saw blue sky...

or the sun...

Greyness has just gone on for weeks.

Cloud cloud cloud. And rain.

I am growing moss.

Please... for The New Year. I would like to see.... the sun.

There's Still About 10 Days of Christmas...

So as we do cope with the after effects of too much food and inactivity we continue to hope you have a good time.

Woo-Woo Solstice Greetings and a Very Merry Christmas Too

Mmmn. I do hope some of you have taken a look at Mrs D's animation there, she got so temperamental making it. And as for The Old Man and me... it's tiring I tell you. 30 frames per second... with a little movement every 2 or 4 frames. Some tempers were frayed all round. And Mrs D used that mangy cat again. And come to think of it... The Old Man got a major share of the limelight there.

Whatever.... The Old Man is baking pannetone... I been making the Christmas cards and hanging up tinsel. The food is in... The greetings have been spread.... we's getting ready.

I do wish everyone a good time. Enough food. Enough warmth. Some love and some peace. Merry Christmas one and all.
